Is there a more efficient way to do this Excel report?

sam & jack asked:

Each week I track sales data in one large Excel file. I have separate worksheets for each salesperson in the same file, and summarize their sales in different categories I am interested in on the individual worksheets (Category 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). I have a current summary of their sales in one worksheet and a cumulative summary of their sales in another. Each summary has each salesperson’s name and their summary in Categories 1- 5. And some averages as well.

Each week I get a new report that has the week’s individual sales data. I copy and paste each person’s data onto their worksheet, use “count if” (to sum up their sales in Categories 1-5, then lookup their performance on the individual worksheets (e.g. ‘Jack’!B7). For the Cumulative Summary, I reference their totals in each week’s Current Summary. I have to change the formula each week to ensure the most recent Current Summary is included.

I am fast at this now, but there has to be a way to automate it better. Any suggestion

Excel Lookup Question?

Minnesota_Slinger asked:

I’m having a problem with looking up something in Excel. Suppose that I have some value for Bob’s salary in cell A1, and I enter $35,000. Suppose I have a table such that for a given person’s salary, there is a corresponding other value, such as home value. In cells A3:B10, suppose I have the table with ascending values of salary (like, $20,000, $30,000, $40,000, …., $90,000) and a corresponding home value of a person with that salary (like, $120,000, $140,000, $160,000, etc.). So, A4=$30,000, B4=$140,000, A5=$40,000, and B5=$160,000. Now, if I do VLOOKUP(A1,A$3:B$10,2), I’ll get $140,000, the corresponding home value of someone making $30,000 a year. But given that Bob makes more than $30,000, suppose I want to find the next higher salary and home value in the list, that is, $40,000 and $160,000. How can I use Excel functions to not only find the next lower values in the table of $30,000 and $140,000, but also the next higher values of $40,000 and $160,000? Thanks.

Advanced Excel “LOOKUP” Help?

noxid_eht7 asked:

I need to figure out the following using excel using the “LOOKUP” function and i’m clueless, please help.

15% on the first $38,832 of taxable income, +
22% on the next $38,832 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income between $38,832 and $77,664), +
26% on the next $48,600 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income between $77,664 and $126,264), +
29% of taxable income over $126,264.
This means that a person with net income of $100,000 would pay .15 * 38,832 + .22 * 38,832 + .26 * (100,000 – 77,664)

The amount of taxable income is up to you, but make sure it’s higher than $38,832

Help with excel. I need the total time for each person?

Filed under: Software — admin @ 11:48 am
Amy B asked:

I have 5 people. 3 tests (lc,uv,ir) and times for each test (lc=5,uv=2,ir=.5.

My first column is a list of the names of people (how often they ran different tests is represented by how often their name repeats) and the second column is the test that they ran. Somewhere on the sheet I need to have a list with a spot for each person and their total time for all tests.

How can I do this without it looking all messy.

I was thinking if – then function with a lookup and sum function but I got lost half way through. Can anyone help me with this?
